Butcher Boys – (031) 312-8248 – Butcher Boys is an upmarket steakhouse specializing in prime cuts of well-aged grain fed South African beef and offering a wide selection of vintage wines.  A feature of the design is the in-house butchery with a display of meat cuts from which diners may make their personal selection which is then prepared for them on an open grill.

Valentino’s Restaurant and Cocktail Bar – “Where Coffe-Meet Curry” with flavors of Durban’s best home made Curry s that tantalize your taste buds, serving Continental Breakfasts and Light Lunches.

Europa Food Emporium – (031) 312-1099 – Europa Food Emporium, they specialize in continental cuisine, from their wood fired pizza oven to award-winning cappuccino’s and their handpicked wine-list, they satisfy any taste.

Spiga – (031) 303-9511 – The fare is ostensibly pizzeria, but in fact it has all the familiar Italian food and Mediterranean and in addition there is the “On The Table” menu which provides a great selection of more innovative cooking.

Taco Zulu – (031) 303-9584 – The menu is Mexican and while it’s not very experimental or exciting, the venue and the great cocktails are enticing enough to keep one going back for more. The menu is extensive and has a variety of Mexican dishes.

Cubanna Lounge – Cubaña is South Africa’s only authentic Latino Social Cafe and eatery which provides the services of a cocktail bar and cigar lounge with a unique cuisine. Come see.. and be seen.

Harvey’s – (031) 312-5706 – Comprising of two dining rooms, a pavement terrace and an open-air cigar/cocktail lounge, the restaurant  is strikingly decorated as a sort of indefinable retro-quasi-gothic-hunting lodge hodgepodge, complete with mounted buffalo trophies, padded velvet walls, gold ceilings and original oil paintings.

Tourist Attractions and Shopping Centres

MOSES MABHIDA STADIUM has changed the way we view sporting venues in South Africa. It is a multi-purpose sporting venue and is also a concert venue.  Having hosted the five group matches, one second round match, one quarter final and a semi-final match of 2010 Fifa World Cup this stadium has become a landmark in our beautiful city and local attraction offering unique activities such as bungi jumps from the arch and trips on the sky car which gives one amazing views over the city and surrounds.

MITCHELL PARK ZOO, situated at the very top of Florida Road, has well established gardens, lovely outdoor restaurants and a tea garden.  It is a great place to spend an afternoon with your family on a hot, humid summer’s day.   The zoo itself holds an extensive collection of exotic birds, monkeys, small animals and reptiles.

MUSGRAVE SHOPPING CENTRE is located 5 kilometres from the hotel.  It offers a wonderful shopping and entertainment experience with its many trendy shops, unique boutiques and large cinema complex.

DURBAN BOTANIC GARDENS is regarded by many as one of South Africa’s most beautiful city parklands.  Of particular interest are the Earnest Thorpe Orchid House, the vast Herb Garden, the Sunken Garden and the Garden for the Blind. There is an information centre and a tea garden. There are live concerts held in the park regularly throughout the year.

SUNCOAST CASINO is situated on the Golden Mile, part of Durban’s North Beach. If winning is on your agenda the The Suncoast Casino is the place to be! This 7’000 m_ casino has both smoking & non-smoking facilities, 1250 slot machines and 50 game tables (Blackjack, Poker, Roulette, Punto Banco and Dice).  There is a large variety of bars and restaurants situated within the casino complex with a selection of shops as well as a cinema.

USHAKA MARINE WORLD is South Africa’s largest marine theme parks spanning 15 hectares of prime beachfront.  uShaka Marine World is home to one of the most unique shopping experiences, offering a shoppers paradise in an open air environment, affording guests a world of entertainment, family fun, shopping and dining. This unique shopping complex and theme park has something for everyone, with a variety of restaurants, an adjoining water world and an aquarium complex.  Great fun for the family!

The SHARKS BOARD welcomes and encourages visitors to its complex in Umhlanga Rocks where they can view a 25 minute audio visual presentation on the day to day work done by the Sharks Board as well as the important role sharks and other animals play in the marine ecosystem.

GATEWAY THEATRE OF SHOPPING is a world class shopping mall / complex and is a mere 20 minute drive from the hotel.  It is definitely a MUST on any ‘to do’ list. It holds 280 stores, and enjoys 1.3 million visitors every month. It is home to a large cinema complex, an IMAX theatre, indoor climbing (a 24 metre high structure), tenpin bowling, bumper cars and even a Surf & Extreme Sports Centre Warehouse. It makes for a great day out.

SHONGWENI RESOURCE CENTRE is a large nature reserve situated 30km north of Durban, which is a recognized Natural Heritage Site. A mere 30 minutes from the spectacular beaches of Durban, Shongweni Resources Reserve is a piece of true Africa. From awe-inspiring cliffs and waterfalls, to lush forests and open thorn tree plains, this reserve is home to rhino, buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck, wildebeest, warthog, varieties of birds and a host of nocturnal animals. Game viewing with the possibility of seeing all the above animals and more.

For Sports Enthusiasts

ROYAL DURBAN GOLF CLUB is situated five minutes away from the hotel.  An oasis of calm amidst a bustling city, The Royal Durban Golf Club is conveniently located in the heart of Greyville, it is not only unique in its setting and character, but it is one of South Africa’s most demanding championship courses.

WINDSOR MUNICIPAL GOLF COURSE (MASHIE GOLF) is an extremely popular course situated within minutes of the hotel.  More than 80,000 rounds are played here annually. Windsor Park is a flat, woodland, “park like” course of 18 holes.

ZIMBALI COUNTRY CLUB Offering irresistible ocean and forest views, exceptional water and wetland features and an inspiring natural setting.  Zimbali Country Club has developed the reputation of a memorable course with charisma and challenge.  Zimbali Country Club and Golf Course is rated independently by Golf Digest magazine as a top 250 South African golf course, as well as a top 5 finest golfing experiences in South Africa.

ABSA PARK RUGBY STADIUM is home to the Natal Sharks rugby team and is situated 5 minutes away from the hotel.

DURBAN COUNTRY CLUB hosts the SA Open and the 18th hole is rated in the top 20 in the world. Established in 1922, Durban Country Club boasts a proud history that spans back almost 90 years.  Situated only 1 kilometre north of Durban’s “golden mile” beachfront and in the heart of Durban’s thriving sporting precinct – opposite the iconic Moses Mabhida stadium and ABSA Stadium – the Durban Country Club is the place to meet and have fun.

Annual Events

The VODACOM DURBAN JULY is Durban’s most glamorous and popular horse racing event which takes place at the Durban Greyville Racecourse, a kilometre from the hotel, usually in the first week of July every year.  We have special offers over this weekend which include accommodation, entertainment and tickets to the event.

The SARDINE RUN takes place along the KZN coast. It has been called The Greatest Shoal on Earth and it sees the annual migration of millions of sardines. It begins in early June and ends in early July.

The MR. PRICE PRO is an annual surfing event with contestants from all over the world. It starts on the 26th of June and has now moved from Durban’s North Beach up to Ballito. A 40 minute drive from the hotel, but worth seeing.

The HANSA POWERADE DUSI CANOE MARATHON is South Africa’s biggest and most prestigious canoeing event.  Paddlers start the marathon in Pietermaritzburg on the 21st of January and the event ends 3 days later at the Umgeni River mouth.

The COMRADES MARATHON takes place in May every year. Contestants run an approximate distance of 90km’s. The race alternates annually between the up run from Durban and the downward run from PMB.

The INDABA is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar and one of the top three ‘must visit’ events of its kind on the global calendar.  It showcases the widest variety of Southern Africa’s best tourism products, and attracts international visitors and media from across the world.  INDABA is a four day trade event that attracts well over 13000 delegates from the travel tourism and related industries.
